Prenzlauer Berg, love at first sight in Berlin

Il y a quelques mois, quand mes meilleurs amis m'ont annoncé qu'ils quittaient New York pour revenir en Europe, je me suis dit "youpi, ils vont s'installer à Paris" et j'ai reçu une invitation à venir découvrir leur nouvelle vie à... Berlin ;)

Some six months ago, when my best friends told me they were leaving New York to return to Europe, I was like to say  "yeah, they'll move to Paris" and I received an invitation to discover their new life in... Berlin ;)
For my first stay, I saw, like three other friends who came also to help prepare moving, the airport, boxes and lots of cleaning to prepare the loft our newyorkers invested in but for this second visit, I was able to provide some strolls in Prenzlauer Berg, green eldorado my friends have chosen.

Located in the northeast of Berlin, Prenzlauer Berg is part of the Pankow district, which before reunification was thus in East Germany.
The area warning marks by an architecture that mixes large colorful buildings and decorated colonnades and stucco masks of Hobrecht Plan ( the berliner Haussmann) and large concrete blocks more austere, the Mietskasernen or "Rental barracks" for the middle class in east Germany.
Since the fall of the wall, the area was gradually invested with a population of young professionals and their families, artists, young entrepreneurs who find large spaces at a still very reasonable cost.
For me, who had left Paris in the rain, this trip was the opportunity to shoot a good green energy and I must say I fell deeply in love with Berlin :)

In practice, from Paris to Berlin Prenzlauer Berg

Of course, as I fear flying, I thought to train but travel time was far too long for a short stay so I opted for a budget airline flight from German Wings (the Lufthansa low cost airline ).
Just under 1:30 flight from Roissy Charles de Gaulle to arrival at Berlin Tegel Airport (TXL).
By choosing  some dates and taking advantage of promotion, the first prizes of return flights start at 70€. For this second and short stay and as I couldn't book too far in advance, the cost still remained attractive since my remaining rate"Basic", I paid 110 € for my trip with practical hours with departure at 9:30 et Roissy and return at 18:10 from Berlin.
From the airport, only bus shuttles will take you to different areas of Berlin.
In Prenzlauer Berg, you have to take the bus TXL to SBahn station (train) BeuselStrasse and from there take the Sbahn for 5 stations until Schönhauser Allee.
journey time about 30 minutes for 2.70€ (you can buy your ticket from the driver)

For accomodation, Airbnb saved me with a 'small' loft of 45m2 (I put 'small' in quotes because in Paris it's huge!) for 35€ per night.
In the heart of StargarderStrasse, my apartment was on a courtyard ans so quiet that the first night I was almost worried not to hear any noise and it was there that I realized that my darling 11th parisian district hasn't only advantages ;)
Light, bright and cozy, the loft of my host, Nick, a musician, helped me to feel like home and organize my stay between coffeeshops visits, strolls and a good deal of work and transport cartons for my best friends who move from New York to Berlin soon.

After this first incursion in Prenzlauer Berg, for the next few posts, I propose to examine the issue of imbiss, coffeeshops, unavoidable to see (or not), street art ...
